Dear Parishioners,
Year of St. Paul
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul.It is also the beginning of a yearlong commemoration of the 2000th anniversary of the birth of St. Paul. While we don’t know the exact date of his birth, the observance of a Pauline year provides us with a good opportunity to reflect on Paul as one of the most important and influential figures in Christian history.the 27 books in the New Testament, 13 are attributed to Paul.More than half of the Acts of the Apostles is devoted to Paul’s conversion and his apostolic activities in spreading the good news of Jesus around the Mediterranean world. Last week in my homily, I encouraged all of us to read St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, considered by many to be his most significant letter. Our second reading will be from Romans almost every Sunday for the next 3 months. To give both you and me an additional incentive to read Romans in the next few weeks, I am scheduling a “Theology on Tap” in the Siena room, Wednesday, July 23rd from 7-8pm.“BYOB” – bring a bible and bring a beverage and we’ll see if a bunch of Catholics can make some sense out of Paul and his message.
Thank you Bridget!
Today after the 10:30am liturgy we will have a reception for Bridget Sweet, our choir director this past year.We thank Bridget for the enthusiasm and love of music she has shared with our choir and congregation. Our prayers and best wishes are with her and her husband Jason as they prepare to move to Pennsylvania.
