Baptism

St. Michael Parish is committed to welcoming parents and assisting them in their role as the primary educators in the faith life of their child, and offering support as that child grows and matures. In response to that commitment, St. Michael Parish offers a process of preparation for parents who present their child for baptism.

To begin, please call the parish office (517-627-8493) to schedule an appointment with the pastor.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss basic information needed, and most importantly to begin for parents a time of awareness and preparation so that when their child is baptized, it may also be an event which celebrates their own faith.

Parents will then be invited to sign up for two evenings of instruction.  Both evenings are a blend of brief presentations and discussion. Both parents are asked to attend unless extraordinary situations prevent them, and godparents are strongly encouraged to attend.

Baptism is celebrated at St. Michael Parish within the Sunday liturgy. It is the community of faith along with the parents and godparents who in the Rite of Baptism promises their assistance and guidance to the child as he/she grows in faith.

Matrimony

The process for marriage preparation is a well designed and fruitful experience here in the Diocese of Lansing.

The process begins with an initial meeting with the pastor.  This meeting is followed by two sessions with Marriage Preparation Team Couple for FOCUS (Facilitating Open Communication, Understanding and Study). FOCUS is a self diagnostic instrument designed to help couples learn more about themselves and their unique relationship.

The Communications Skills Seminar is a three sessions seminar which teaches couples positive communication and conflict management skills for counteracting and limiting negative patterns so the more positive bond in marriage may continue to develop and mature.

Foundations in the Catholic Faith Series is also offered in four sessions and serves to renew and deepen the faith of Roman Catholics, providing an understanding of the Catholic faith tradition for non-Catholic partners, giving both partners accurate information about the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church.

Finally, the Spirituality of Marriage Workshop is designed to bring closure to the formation process and help couples connect spiritually with all aspects of the preparation process and life as a married couple in the future.

Optional elements in the process may include Engaged Encounter or Remarriage Seminar, depending on individual circumstances.  As the wedding day approaches, the couple meets with pastor to review the preparation process, and plan specific elements of the liturgy and wedding celebration. (1 session).

Holy Orders

By our very baptism, God calls each of us to a particular vocation, the special way each of us is called to walk with God each day. Some are called to the priesthood, deaconate, or religious life. The sacrament of Holy Orders stems from the Office of Bishop and is shared in the Priesthood and Diaconate.  Related to these vocations are the consecrated and religious lives. If you feel that you have been called to one of these walks of life, or would like assistance in discerning your vocation, please call the parish office.
